Shot on location and in a
sound stage, Donnie’s Tree wrapped production in a
seven-day shooting schedule in
Victorville, Los Angeles, and the city of
Orange. The first day of principal photography
was underway in Victorville,
the location for all of the exterior
scenes. While we originally planned
and anticipated a hot dry day, we were
greeted with storm clouds and cold, wet
weather. Rather than fretting the
clouds, we embraced them as
visual cues for what lay ahead
in the stormy relationship
between Donnie and Carmen.
This 27-page script was shot with
19,800 feet of film using 35mm Kodak
SO-080, 500 Tungsten film, which was
originally custom ordered by a well known
Cinematographer. A significant
portion was donated by Eastman Kodak
Company.®
Panavision® had granted Donnie’s Tree
with a complete 35mm package
through the New Filmmaker Program
for a significantly reduced cost.
