With Billy Fraker A.S.C., B.S.C., and Eli Kaufman (Winning the Peace) at the Big Bear Lake Film Festival (taken with the camera phone...Mr. Fraker wouldn't approve, I'm sure.)
Angy and Insung at the Sedona International Film Festival. Angy had several interviews. This is a great festival with great organizers. Thank you to Pat Schweiss, Sheila Jackman, and everyone involved with the festival...KUDOS!!
On the way back from Sedona, a sunset over the Grand Canyon.
One more stop at Zion National Park.
John checks the long empty dirt road for proper framing. The long empty dirt road was in San Bernardino County because it was free, permits were easy, and even the California Highway Patrol said it was okay. About a mile down in LA County, it would have cost us about $250 per camera set up. Thank you San Bernardino!
"I know it looks like I'm relaxing here, but I'm really rehearsing my lines." Ian spent a good deal of time rehearsing even when not necessary. He would go stand or sit in a corner by himself, mumbling something. We used to think he was crazy. But, we see now that he was just going over his lines.
Donnie stares out the window to see if Carmen's gone.
Carmen plays with the broken Victrola. "I could have been a ballerina!"
Brooding.
Empty.
Donald gets ready to bury Sir.
John takes a meter reading. Don't tell anyone, but the car wasn't moving when we shot the interior...unless you count Hannes shaking the truck from the tail gate.
The first shot of any shoot isn't complete without a cool dolly movement that gets cut out during the editing process.
"You mean I can direct the entire movie from this box?" -Insung
"The House" exterior. Most people don't know that there were actually two houses - One for the interior, another for the exterior.
John and Hannes devise an angle for which the camera is larger than the window. Insung actually wrangled John to help him for free because he had told him that he was going to have Jaime Lee Curtis do a cameo for this other script that he had. Well, he canned the script, but John still stuck around and honored his word.
Everyone remembers the clouds. Does anyone remember the barking pit bull?
Insung checks for framing at the library. Incidentally, there were also two libraries - one for the exterior, another for the interior. This is the Victorville Library.
This is the base photo used for the key art. Click here to see the final.
